The Next Three DVD Serious Dramas that Deserve HD

All About Eve (1950). Now this is a behind-the-scenes Hollywood tale, but it still qualifies. This film won a Best Picture award in 1950. The biographical fiction about an aging Hollywood star who is being pursued by a young ambitious actress is an American classic. Performances by Bette Davis as Margo Channing and Ms. Anne Baxter as Eve Harrington put this movie over the top, especially Davis' turn where she was willing to appear with only cold cream as make-up and donned in a bath robe. Wholesale DVDs sellers would welcome this movie in hi def. In the same category, but maybe even more accomplished is Sunset Boulevard (1950), the spine-tingling story of Norma Desmond's gauzy wish to return to a stage she long ago left behind. The movie starred Gloria Swanson as the troubled Norma Desmond. Which of these choices is most "HD-worthy" is really a tie, although Sunset Boulevard might have a little head start because of the amazing scene setting, always great to watch in High Def. Schindler's List. This is by far the most serious and moving film made in the 1990s. It is the story of thousands of Jews who were rescued from extermination during World War II by one individual, Schindler and his wife. The cinematographic images of this movie are, as you would expect, nearly unbearable, so this recommendation that it is suitable for hi def treatment reflects admiration for the creative vision of Director, Steven Spielberg and Janusz Kaminski, the cinematographer for the candor and honesty in this motion picture. Little more need be said about a motion picture that garnered seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Director and Music. It is highly unlikely that this picture will ever end up sandwiched in with bargain lots of wholesale DVDs.

Slumdog Millionaire. It is indisputable that the visual clarity of high definition was almost hand-tailored for this film. DVD wholesalers already have Blu-Ray disc in stock. The fascinating interplay of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", Bollywood version, with the story of the main character having the responses to the questions because of his own biography is truly moving. The musical score hums through the movie like a drum. This picture won 8 Academy Awards and showed impressively at all of the remaining critic's awards as well. It raised some arguments because of its images of the poorer areas of Mumbai, but that did not impact its achievements. This is another film that will be in the inventories of wholesale dvds sellers for a very long time.
